Green Chimneys extends its expertise in mental health and positive youth development to children and teens across Putnam County and bordering areas with comprehensive prevention/intervention services. Home- and community-based programs provide support to local youth of all ages, including runaway, homeless, street and foster care youth. We seek to empower young people with vital skills and resources to help them enter adulthood as confident, responsible members of their communities.
From fun and constructive activity programs at the Community Outreach Center to the safety and support of Arbor House youth shelter, Green Chimneys offers a wide range of support services for all ages up 21 years old. The goal of Green Chimneys’ community-based programs is to connect families with necessary resources for their children, encourage conflict resolution, and help strengthen family communication and optimal functioning through comprehensive prevention and intervention services.
Services are available throughout the year with special programming offered during summer months and school vacations.
All services are free and confidential. Bilingual staff available.
Crisis support can be accessed through a case manager or by calling our 24-hour hotline: 845.279.2588
With the completion of an elaborate new habitat built by Green Chimneys’ woodshop students, the Farm Science classroom was able to welcome Brownie into her new home. Brownie previously lived alone in her cage in the farm and wildlife office, but guinea pigs do best in larger environments. The new habitat allows her to live in a herd as she would in the wild, with many places to hide and ways to practice her skills. Brownie has always been a social creature, and she has taken over the guinea pig herd but is a very peaceful leader.
