Announcements

Children considered for Green Chimneys’ therapeutic programs are boys and girls ages 6-16 upon admission, who are struggling with a variety of social, emotional and behavioral challenges related to:
Green Chimneys accepts students primarily from school districts across New York State and Connecticut. Admission is based on school district or agency referral and the individual needs of the child. Day and residential program costs are covered by the home school district.
While we would like to be a resource for all children with special needs, we are not appropriately equipped to provide treatment for children who display active fire setting, problematic sexualized behavior, active psychosis or substance abuse, or who are adjudicated youth. In addition, we are unable to provide appropriate treatment for children with IQs below 80.
Please note that children referred with severe medical conditions or physical disabilities are evaluated on a case-by-case basis in order to assess our ability to meet their medical needs.

A school that partners children with animals for educational and therapeutic activities is an ideal home for Nutmeg, a Nubian goat donated by a family who kept her as a therapy animal for a child with special needs. Nutmeg arrived at Green Chimneys as an energetic one-year-old. Although she had lived solely with people, she immediately adapted to her new goat peers at the farm. At the same time, she presents a challenge to students: goats possess a strong will so taking a walk is not always a simple task.
