Announcements

For youth looking for a way to spend some free time after school, meet up with peers or simply find helpful support, the Community Outreach Center offers free drop-in activities and scheduled programs in a safe and comfortable setting for community youth ages 10-20.
The After School program offers structured activities, homework assistance, arts and crafts, community service projects and other indoor and outdoor activities, including games and special event activities. The program is designed to promote positive youth development in a safe place where youth can interact with peers, develop new skills, enhance their academic performance, become involved in positive recreational activities, and increase their community involvement through volunteer services. Daily on-site counseling and group activities are available as needed. There is no fee to participate.
An additional evening drop-in program for youth ages 14-20 is provided on Thursdays and Friday. The program offers individual, group and peer counseling, basic need assistance, assessments and referrals for mental health, substance abuse or health-related services in an environment that promotes safety, stability and positive youth development. There is no fee to participate.

The Outreach Center also hosts weekly support/information groups for Putnam County youth. Psycho-educational group meetings run for 8 weeks and build continuity with youth and support their growth and development. More
Opportunities to complete required community service are available at the Outreach Center. Youth aged 14 and up can work as volunteers at the Center helping younger youth with homework, leading arts & crafts activities, teaching skills/hobbies or assisting staff with special projects. Social and recreational activities are offered along with the above groups.
Green Chimneys staff also attend school, health and community activities/events to provide interactive presentations on a variety of topics to youth and other interested groups throughout Putnam County. If your school or organization is interested in inviting us to present, please contact Erin LeMon via [email protected].
With the completion of an elaborate new habitat built by Green Chimneys’ woodshop students, the Farm Science classroom was able to welcome Brownie into her new home. Brownie previously lived alone in her cage in the farm and wildlife office, but guinea pigs do best in larger environments. The new habitat allows her to live in a herd as she would in the wild, with many places to hide and ways to practice her skills. Brownie has always been a social creature, and she has taken over the guinea pig herd but is a very peaceful leader.
