Supervised Independent Living Program
Essential skills and supportive housing for youth in foster care
Green Chimneys’ Supervised Independent Living offers youth ages 18-21, who are currently in foster care, a structured shared residential experience with opportunities to become self-sufficient and acquire tools to successfully transition into community living.
Residential program includes:
- Safe and stable independent living environment in supervised apartments
- Length of stay up until 21st birthday
- Basic life skills and weekly group sessions to learn to manage day-to-day responsibilities
- Individual life skills assessments to assist in developing a realistic transitional living plan
- Weekly individual and group counseling
- Substance abuse assessment and support for prevention, education and treatment, if needed
- Access to health care services within Green Chimneys
- Job skills development and assistance in obtaining employment
- Daily office drop-in hours
Applicant guidelines:
- Currently under New York State foster care program
- 18-21 years old
- Current employment
- Enrollment in college, vocational or comparable education program, as applicable
- Desire to live in and contribute to a positive environment
