Supervised Independent Living Program

Essential skills and supportive housing for youth in foster care

Green Chimneys’ Supervised Independent Living offers youth ages 18-21, who are currently in foster care, a structured shared residential experience with opportunities to become self-sufficient and acquire tools to successfully transition into community living.

Residential program includes:

  • Safe and stable independent living environment in supervised apartments
  • Length of stay up until 21st birthday
  • Basic life skills and weekly group sessions to learn to manage day-to-day responsibilities
  • Individual life skills assessments to assist in developing a realistic transitional living plan
  • Weekly individual and group counseling
  • Substance abuse assessment and support for prevention, education and treatment, if needed
  • Access to health care services within Green Chimneys
  • Job skills development and assistance in obtaining employment
  • Daily office drop-in hours

Applicant guidelines:

  • Currently under New York State foster care program
  • 18-21 years old
  • Current employment
  • Enrollment in college, vocational or comparable education program, as applicable
  • Desire to live in and contribute to a positive environment
