At Green Chimneys students with special needs learn to ride, care for and connect with horses as part of a comprehensive treatment plan and nature-based education experience. And as a PATH International Premier Accredited Center, we are committed to providing quality equine-assisted educational programs.
To safely and successfully join the team, each horse must be:
Horse candidates must be reasonably quiet, suitable for children and comfortable in a very stimulating environment. Our horses typically work about 10 hours a week in a combination of English riding lessons, trail rides, and groundwork activities. We are in need of both stocky ponies and larger horses capable of carrying adult riders. Horses with a background in driving will also be a great addition to our team.
Applications are now being accepted for horse donations. Lease agreements will also be considered.
Get the process started by sharing basic information below about your horse, and we’ll follow up with you!
Blossom is a 1-year-old Holstein cow, and she was born a freemartin. A freemartin calf is a common result of twin calves; the female twin absorbs genetic material from a male twin in utero, and after birth develops male traits and subsequently becomes sterile. Since Blossom can’t produce milk, the dairy farm where she was born asked Green Chimneys if we’d like to have her, and of course, we agreed! Blossom came to us around the same time as another calf named Alfie, and the two have grown up together while being cared for by staff and students alike.
