Virus Health Procedure FAQ

Our current policies and practices for maintaining a safe environment are outlined in the Green Chimneys COVID-19 Procedures.

Due to changing information and the need to revise procedures, please contact your social worker for the latest updates.

Will Green Chimneys re-open?

Green Chimneys is in daily contact with the Putnam County Department of Health
and New York State agencies. We are following the directives of state, county and public health officials and have implemented procedures based on recommendations to school settings and residential facilities, such as ours. We are receiving updates from the Department of Health, adapting procedures as needed, and will continue to abide by decisions made by these authorities.

What about deep cleaning and/or preparations to re-open?

As a 24-hour facility, we maintain a round-the-clock cleaning schedule. Due to some residential students and staff on campus, our Environmental Services department is continuing heightened infection control procedures, including additional sanitizing of commonly accessed surfaces. Hand sanitizer dispensers are installed throughout our campuses, and increased signage recommends hand-washing before and after all activities. Review our complete Infection Control Procedures here.

How are you managing visitors to Green Chimneys campuses and program locations?

Green Chimneys campuses and community program sites are closed until further notice.
This includes the Farm & Wildlife Center, Public Swim programs, Nature’s Nursery preschool and school-age programs, Outdoor Education programs and activities at our Clearpool campus, and the Community Outreach Center in the Village of Brewster. We have also suspended all Volunteer activities.

Can I visit my child in the residential program?

Family visits to residential students who have remained on campus resume in June. Please review the On Campus Visit Guidelines before planning a visit. Beginning in July, we will be scheduling return dates for all residents who remain at home. Please refer to the communication on Residential Student Return.
