Green Chimneys Earns Historic Designation

January 10, 2024
Assemblyman Matt Slater presents Green Chimneys staff with certificate of Historic Business Designation

Green Chimneys is honored to be Putnam County’s first New York State Historic Business. This designation on the NYS Historic Business Preservation Registry comes via the State’s Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.

Registry nominees are businesses that have been in operation for a minimum of 50 years, and have made significant contributions to the history of their local communities. Green Chimneys was nominated by NYS Assemblyman Matt Slater, who visited in December to present the official Registry certificate and citation.

“Assemblyman Slater’s support underscores the transformative impact of our innovative nature-based programming,” says Executive Kristin Dionne. “As we have for the past 76 years, Green Chimneys will continue to serve children in New York, providing residential, educational, clinical and recreational services, in a safe and supportive environment that nurtures connections with their families, the community, animals, and nature.”
