Family Volunteer Day
Saturday, May 30, 2026
9:00am - Noon
400 Doansburg Road
Brewster, NY 10509
Due to expected poor weather, Family Volunteer Day has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 30th.

Enjoy the outdoors while giving back with a great morning tending to the animals and natural spaces that are helping children succeed.
If you’re looking to introduce your child* to volunteerism our Family Volunteer Day will be both fun and meaningful.
There is an old saying on farms that “Many hands make light work.”
Taking care of horses, donkeys, goats, camels, llamas, and hundreds of other animals, as well as tending to our gardens, are BIG jobs. Stalls need to be cleaned, buckets have to be scrubbed, tack needs to be maintained, and garden beds need to be prepared for planting.
Spend a morning in the main barns, on the farm, or in the gardens of Green Chimneys.
We have different tasks for different ages and abilities – everyone will be able to do something. This is a great weekend activity for families. Come dressed for the weather and be prepared for a fun and interesting morning of hands-on work. Example projects include: mucking stalls, spreading woodchips on trails, and weeding garden beds.
Each family will be assigned to a project at one of the following Farm locations:
- Horse Barn
- Teaching Barn
- Wildlife Center
- Children’s Garden
The animals and gardens help Green Chimneys School students, children with special needs, make connections, build skills, and grow as individuals. Your efforts help our animals and farm and also support our students’ growth!
*All participants must be 7 years of age or older. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
