CELEBRITY CHEF PROGRAM LAUNCHED WITH VISIT
Two world renowned chefs with a philosophy of using the finest fresh ingredients in their culinary creations paid a visit to Green Chimneys on March 30. The visit by chefs Wolfgang Puck of Los Angeles and Waldy Malouf of Beacon Restaurant in Manhattan marked the launch of a "Celebrity Chef Program" that gives Green Chimneys children an opportunity to meet master chefs.
"We are honored to have two legendary chefs here on the same day," said Dr. Samuel B. Ross Jr. "Chef Malouf has been associated with us for more than 15 years and has just launched the Green Chimneys Kitchen Renewal Project to raise funds for renovation of our dining hall kitchen. This will provide our students with a strengthened opportunity for vocational training and a career path that can prepare them for jobs in the hospitality industry. It was Chef Puck's first visit, but we hope he'll be back to visit us again."
Students met the legendary chefs during Saturday lunch and had a chance to get their photos taken with them. The chefs toured Green Chimneys School and the fully equipped kitchen classroom where students learn about cooking and life skills with lessons on geography, culture and language woven into the program as they study cuisine from around the world. Also on the itinerary was a tour of the farm and wildlife center, Boni-Bel Organic farm and the sugar shack. A highlight of the tour was a gourmet lunch prepared by our own culinary wizard, chef Mark Kaplan, with assistance from his food services team.
