Green Chimneys founder Dr. Samuel B. Ross Jr. has always said it's the people who make a place, not the bricks and mortar. On Friday, Oct. 26, the people of Green Chimneys were honored as long-time staff received service award pins from executive director Joseph Whalen. The staff reception, complete with a giant sheet cake, was the kick-off to our 60th anniversary weekend, which included a Founders' Day Diamond Anniversary Dinner and a community open house, dubbed Sundae Sunday.
Saturday's sold-out Founders' Day raised more than $33,000, thanks to matching funds from the MCJ challenge. Former students and staff were among those in the dining hall, which was magically transformed for a gourmet dinner prepared by chef A. Mark Kaplan, who himself just celebrated 25 years of service.
