Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation

Green Chimneys operates a wildlife rehabilitation center, which is licensed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and NY Department of Environmental Conservation, on our Brewster campus as well as a rescue sub-station at our group home in Bedford, NY. The Center is primarily dedicated to caring for injured, orphaned and distressed Birds of Prey. This includes hawks, falcons, eagles, owls and vultures. We do not have unlimited capacity to take in injured birds and can only accept animals that we are able to appropriately handle. In some cases we have to turn away animals or refer them to other rehabilitation centers. With prior approval from our wildlife specialist Paul Kupchok, you will be instructed on how best to transport the animal/bird to our facility for care. We are not able to provide removal services for "pest" situations.

The Green Chimneys Wildlife Center will accept injured Birds of Prey during normal farm business hours: Monday to Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please contact our wildlife specialist Mr. Kupchok at (845) 279-2995, Ext. 227 for information

Whenever possible, rehabilitated wildlife is released back into the wild by the children who assisted with the animal's care. This release is often timed to coincide with a child's discharge from Green Chimneys and serves as wonderful parallel between the animal's healing and the child's healing during their time with us.

IF YOU CANNOT CONTACT US, PLEASE PHONE YOUR DEC REGIONAL WILDLIFE OFFICE, LOCAL VETERINARIAN OR ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION FOR INFORMATION ON HOW BEST TO HELP INJURED WILDLIFE.

Dr. Jack Wilson of Brewster Veterinary Hospital works closely with us and provides emergency care for the wildlife brought to our facility. We are grateful for his dedication and services.

(Note: We are not allowed to accept Raccoons, Skunks or Bats due to the threat of Rabies. We cannot accept fawns or adult deer due to the captive-bred deer that live at our Wildlife Center.)
