The Gramercy Residence at Ungar House is a foster care group residence program for youth ages 16-20. Gramercy offers 365 days a year of care to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender & questioning young people in a 24-hour structured and supervised home-like structure.
The basic goal for the Gramercy Residence is to enable older adolescents in foster care to function in the urban community independently and successfully. The program serves as a transition from older youth aging out of foster care. We help prepare youth for adulthood as part of ACS’initiative to assist youth with a more positive experience when discharged from care. Our emphasis is to teach residents the essential life skills necessary for future self sufficiency. Utilizing our own curriculum - Life Skills for Living in the Real World- the program teaches about money management, consumer awareness, human sexuality, educational planning, job seeking & maintenance, interpersonal communication, community resources, anger and conflict management, dealing with transitions, transportation skills, identification of housing, emergency and safety skills, and legal issues.
