Green Chimneys Exceeds Goal Set by The Calamus Foundation PDF Print E-mail
Funds raised will enhance career development programs for LGBT youth

With the help of friends both old and new, Green Chimneys raised nearly $70,000, far surpassing the $25,000 challenge grant by The Calamus Foundation!

This past January, The Calamus Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant to enhance the career development program for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth served by the Green Chimneys New York City Divison. A portion of the funds was a $25,000 challenge grant requiring Green Chimneys to raise an additional $25,000 to match. With the hard work of the Green Chimneys NYC Community Advisory Council and staff, we more than doubled our goal with $70,000 in new and increased support!

Many of the youth served by the Green Chimneys NYC Division lack the support, guidance, and access to vocational opportunities needed to prepare for an independent, financially stable life. We work with our young people to help them gain marketable skills, build confidence, and explore possibilities through hands-on experiences and training.

The Calamus grant will fund Project OAR (Opportunities and Relationships), Green Chimneys NYC’s newest initiative to help LGBTQ youth develop life and career skills needed to secure and keep meaningful employment while learning how to build, participate in and benefit from structured support networks such as mentoring programs and alumni associations. The program will be available to youth served by the Green Chimneys New York City Division, and in surrounding communities.

In addition to many generous individuals, special thanks goes to The Keith Haring Foundation, Tiger Baron Foundation, and Out on the Street for their support of this effort.
