Help Us Reach $125,000 for our New Career Development Initiative!
Green Chimneys was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from The Calamus Foundation to enhance a new career development program for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Transgender and Questioning (LGBTQ) youth who are homeless or in foster care. Many of the youth served by Green Chimneys NYC lack the support, guidance, and access to vocational opportunities needed to prepare for an independent, financially stable life. We work with our young people to help them gain marketable skills, build confidence, and explore possibilities through hands-on experiences and training.
The Calamus grant will fund Green Chimneys’ newest initiative, Project OAR (Opportunities and Relationships), to help LGBTQ youth to develop life and career skills needed to secure and keep meaningful employment while learning how to build, participate in and benefit from structured support networks such as mentoring programs and alumni associations. The program will be available to youth served by the Green Chimneys New York City Division, and in surrounding communities.
A portion of the $100,000 awarded by The Calamus Foundation is a $25,000 challenge grant requiring Green Chimneys to raise $25,000 in matching funds by June 30, 2012. These additional funds will increase resources and maximize impact of this important program.
