The Community Outreach Center provides after school and evening activities, intervention, prevention and counseling for community youth ages 10-20 in order to provide a safe and productive place to interact with peers and promote positive youth development. The Center provides an after-school program, Street Outreach Services and a Youth Source peer support group that meets weekly.
Hours Ages 10-20: Mon - Thurs 2:30 - 6pm and Fri 2:30 - 5pm Additional hours for ages 14-20: Wed & Thurs 6 - 8pm
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM The after school program offers structured activities, homework assistance, arts and crafts, community service projects and other indoor and outdoor activities including games and special event activities. The program is designed to promote positive youth development in a safe place where youth can interact with their peers, develop new skills, enhance their academic performance, become involved in positive recreational activities, increase their community involvement through volunteer services and reduce risk for entering the juvenile justice system. Daily on-site counseling and group activities are available as needed.
PARENT CENTRAL A support and educational group for parents who need assistance fostering effective communication with their teen. We offer information and guidance in effective ways to communicate with your teenagers and improve your relationship, education and information about available community resources, and some effective ways to set limits and encourage responsibility. You'll also find support from other area parents. Second Wednesday of every month 6:30 - 7:30pm
ANGER MANAGEMENT A weekly group to help youth learn effective ways to express and manage their anger. The program addresses triggers, negative patterns of interaction, self-care, stress management and effective communication; all with the goal of reducing problematic behaviors and increasing self-esteem. Thursdays 5:45 - 6:30pm
STREET OUTREACH SERVICES The Center operates an additional evening drop-in program Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6-8pm specifically for youth, ages 14-20. The program offers individual, group and peer counseling, basic need assistance, assessments and referrals for mental health, substance abuse or health related services in an environment that promotes safety, stability and positive youth development. Services are also available anytime the Center is open or by phone.
YOUTH SOURCE Youth Source is a peer-to-peer support and socialization group that encourages youth to develop new friendships while seeking information and support about their concerns and struggles. The group is overseen by a social worker and allows youth to discuss topics that interest them in a non threatening environment, accessing peer advice, support and educational information about the topic. Thursdays 7:00 - 7:45pm
