November is National Runaway Prevention Month and Green Chimneys is shining a light on the issues facing runaway youth. According to national statistics, between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth run away in a year, and youth aged 12-17 are at higher risk for homelessness than adults.

During the month of November, Green Chimneys’ Community Based Services will coordinate fun and purposeful community awareness activities, including a “Glow Walk” on Thursday, November 9. Join Green Chimneys and Putnam County youth and families for a nighttime stroll starting 6:00pm from Brewster Train Station at 9 Main Street to the Green Chimneys Community Outreach Center at 965 Route 22 in Brewster.

Runaway Prevention Month serves to support at-risk youth and educate the public about the solutions and the role they can play in preventing youth from running away. For more information or to find out other ways you can support, and prevent, runaway youth, contact Erin Dommermuth at 845.278.4486 or edommermuth@greenchimneys.org

Runaway prevention is just one of the many services Green Chimneys provides in the community which includes a full range of therapeutic programs and supportive services for youth and families county-wide. New programs include Health Homes, a care coordination service designed to ensure that families receive competent, comprehensive and integrative services to support the health-related needs of their child. All services are free and confidential.
