When working with adolescents diagnosed with emotional disorders or on the autism spectrum, it is sometimes challenging to address their communication challenges. They often resist working on language goals presented through a structured approach; they tend to recite rote responses, but then fail to apply them during spontaneous social interactions both in and out of the classroom.
